About Atia
I was raised in Canada, graduated from York University (Toronto) with a B.A. Hons Psychology and B. Ed., named a member to the Dean’s Honour Roll (1996). A published children’s author of two titles, “Molly, Sue and Someone New” (1994) and “Open House at Greenless Public School” (1995), both books used as educational tools in schools to teach children about diversity and inclusion. I hold international teaching licenses (Canadian and British), act as an educational consultant for various international charities. I am fluent in urdu, gujarati and hindi. Although England has been my home since 1999, in recent years, I have spent my time in both countries, Canada and England but continue to offer my online talk therapy services around the world to suit the needs of my clients.
I am a trained Mental Health First Aider (UK) and qualifed counsellor (member of BPS and BAATN)) with a zest for learning, training and developing my skills so that I am able to offer all of my clients the best standard of counselling services. Over the last fifteen years I continued professional development as counsellor in my roles as a consultant and panel member for Foster Care Link and more recently through the CPPD Counselling School in North London.
I have extensive experience working with adults and children of diverse ethnic backgrounds, ages, faiths and mental health challenges over the last 25 years, in my professional career as well as my personal roles.
I have worked as a counsellor in my role as a primary school teacher, a consultant for adult learning services, a volunteer for newly arrived refugees through the charity I established in 2015, North London Welcome, as a faith based counsellor when clients have requested it and through Mindworks UK Psychological Services.
I take the person-centered and humanistic integrative approach to counselling my clients, which takes into account the whole person-mind, body and spirit, using techniques and tools from different modalities to tailor an individual approach for my clients. As the counsellor, I act as a guide and source of support for my clients and help my my clients to maximise their own ability in resolving their problems.
Throughout the recent pandemic, I have had the opportunity to offer much needed online support as a talk practitioner to individuals around the world suffering from stress, anxiety and depression brought on by both personal and professional challenges and for those who need it, offer ongoing support post pandemic
I feel a deep sense of fullfillment and satisfaction when I am able to offer my clients a safe place to talk about their problems, listen without judgement, and assist them in looking deeper within themselves to find solutions to their own problems. Overall, helping them cope better with their life challenges, set goals for themselves, work towards reaching their goals and making better choices for a happier, more fullfilling life. Through online talk sessions with me, I hope to help you along this journey to overcoming your problems and finding peace and contentment.
